FIRST MEETINGS of PACE SOCIETY
were held in MISSISSIPPI after which during the first ten years, two meetings were held in WILLIAMSBURG Virginia and one each in CHARLESTON, South Carolina, BILOXI, Mississippi, RALEIGH, North Carolina, ATLANTA, Georgia; ST. LOUIS, Missouri.

The SOCIETY's PURPOSE

shall be to promote the science of genealogy as it concerns the PACE Family in America
....and ELSEWHERE in the world.

THIS SHALL BE ACHIEVED

through educational and research programs and projects which discover, preserve, produce and publish genealogical and historical information on the PACE family.

TWO MAIN OBJECTIVES
WERE ADOPTED in 1967

  1. one was to publish
    a BULLETIN
    - quarterly newsbooklet
    in an effort to assemble data on earlier PACES and transmit it to MEMBERS

  2. the other was to provide a means of bringing present day cousins together by means of

    an ANNUAL MEETING
    or FAMILY REUNION

My FIRST REUNION VISIT

There is something very special about walking into a room full of people who you have never seen before and being treated like family. Then, too, is the special pleasure of meeting and getting to know all the people who have built the Society and kept in running and to finally attach a face to the name.

I was very surprised to find that the membership has a good mixture of age groups. I'm making plans to attend the reunion next year in Williamsburg VA and hope to take most of my family with me.

My final impression about this and other reunions is that we need these meeting more than we know. Just as we need to attend our local genealogical society monthly meetings. Most of us labor in isolation. We spend too much time in libraries, archives or our basement offices. Our immediate family does not understand or appreciate our love of history in general much less our propensity to spend more time with the dead than with them.

At least once a year we need to get together, to just to be together. While we can tour and meet and share new information, I believe the most important benefit is just being together.
I hope to see you next year in Salt Lake City.
